Level up your anatomy and design skills in our July Character Design Workshop with Peter Yong!

Join Pete in this 2-day holiday workshop, where he will share his expertise in creating dynamic and engaging characters for film, TV, and games. With a focus on the fundamentals of drawing and design theory, this workshop will equip you with the skills needed to begin your journey into character design.

Pete has over 15 years of experience across video games, film, TV, comics, and concept art, and excels in both realistic and stylized character designs.  He will take you through his process from start to finish with a live demonstration that includes thumbnailing, gesture drawing, controlling proportions, and adding exaggeration to give your characters a playful twist. During the workshop, Pete will offer insights into the industry, demonstrate essential techniques, and provide mentoring and guidance on your work.

Workshop Requirements

Hardware Requirements
    • A laptop and drawing tablet (eg. Wacom and Huion have good drawing tablets) so that you can follow along, as we do not supply any equipment for our workshops.
    • iPads may be used, although they are better suited to using alternative software (see Software List)
    • If you don't have any of the above items, a sketchbook and pencils, markers will be okay, but be mindful that Pete will be using Photoshop for his demonstrations.
    Recommended Software
      • Adobe Photoshop - You can take up a 7-day trial if you haven't used it before and would like to try it out.
      • You are also welcome to use other drawing software like Gimp, Manga Studio, Procreate, etc. as most techniques will be transferrable.
      • For iPad users we recommend Procreate instead of photoshop.
      Online Option

        This workshop is available both in-person and online.

        To sign up for the workshop, click the “Register Now!” button above and you will be required to complete a registration form. Full payment is due on registration. Once you have completed the sign up, you will be sent a confirmation email by CDW Studios acknowledging receipt of your registration.
